Jasper County OPEN Bowling Tournament

The first Jasper County Open bowling tournament presented by Vanderwaal Insurance, was held at Cardinal Lanes on Saturday April 7. 24 bowlers signed up to bowl 4 games of qualifying and the chance to make the elite 8 bracket finals. The lone woman in the field, Jenna Majerus qualified 4th and rolled her way to the championship game where she ran into Hall of Famer Jeff VanBlair for the title. Jeff was victorious in the championship game taking the $200 top prize while Majerus walked away with $135 for second. The top 2 qualifiers, Rusty Huggins and Eric Arnold, were both defeated in the first round of the 1 game head to head match play finals by the outstanding efforts of Jesse Hopkins and Jordan Overton.

The new tournament was the brainchild of Eric Arnold, Vice President of the Jasper County Bowling Association. "The mission of the JCBA is to promote the game of bowling. I think for the first year this was a good turn out and we have accomplished our mission. Hopefully it will become bigger and better from here on out. We'll have the 2nd tournament at Mustang Lanes in Monroe next season. A special thanks goes to Bev VanBlair and the Cardinal Lanes staff for hosting us, Slim Vanderwaal for donating money to the prize fund, and to Melanie Humphrey for working the day of the tournament. She kept track of all the scores and helped make things run smoothly."
