Mt. Pleasant Men's Bowling Hall of Fame Biographies

 

Arthur Spraker:  Bowled 40 years in four to six leagues most of those seasons.  Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association Secretary-Treasurer for 35 years.  He founded and administrated the Junior Bowling Association.  Participated in 20 ABC Tournaments and several Iowa State Tournaments.

Richard Donnolly:  Bowled 40 years in two to three leagues several of those seasons.  Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association President for 20 years.  Director on Association Board for 7 years.  He was a League President and League Sponsor many years.  Held Association High Average, High Game, and High Series on multiple occasions.  Has two lifetime 300 games and several 700 Series.  Participated in 24 ABC Tournaments and Iowa State Tournaments

Bobby Phillips:  Bowled over 40 years, and over 35 years in two different leagues.  Member of the Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association Board of Directors for 25 years.  Was member of two City Tournament team event Champions and a Doubles City Tournament Champion.  Has bowled a 300 game which was high game for the Association.  Has bowled in 22 ABC National Tournaments and 27 Iowa State Tournaments. 

Merlin Donnolly:  Has bowled over 40 years with 35 years in at least two different leagues.  Member of the Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association Board of Directors for 25 years.  Was a member of one City Tournament team Champions.  Has bowled in 14 State Tournaments and several ABC Tournaments.

Dwight Woodsmall:  Bowled 40 years and in two leagues for 21 years.  Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association Vice President for one year, and served on the Board of Directors for 6 years.  Was a League Secretary- Treasurer.  Participated in several Iowa State Tournaments.

Raymond Pickard:  Bowled for 25 years and in two leagues for 14 of those years.  Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association President for 3 years.  Was a League President for several years.  Bowled a 743 series which was High Series in the Association.  Participated in several Iowa State Tournaments.

Dean Arbogast:  Bowled for 35 years with 27 years in two leagues.  Served on the   Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association Board of Directors for 25 years.  Was a league President for several years.  Member of a City Tournament team Champion.  Participated in 25 Iowa State and ABC National Tournaments.

Wendell Wallingford:  Bowled for 30 years with 19 of those years in two different leagues.  Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association President for two years and Board of Directors for 10 years.  Was a League President for several years.  Participated in several Iowa State, ABC National, and Mixed National Tournaments.

Frank Miller:  Bowled for 25 years with 15 of those years in two different leagues.  Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association President for two years.  Was a League President and League Vice-President.  Participated in several Iowa State Tournaments.

Neal Longstreth:  Bowled for 25 years and 8 years in two leagues.  Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association Treasurer for 4 years and Board of Directors for 6 years.  Was a League President for several years.

Richard Arbogast:  Bowled for over 40 years and in as many as 4 different leagues for several years. Served on the  Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association Board of Directors  for 30 years.  Has been League President, League Vice-President, and League Secretary-Treasurer.  Been a member of two City Tournament Team Champions.  Has bowled a 299 and two 298 games along with several 700 Series.  Was Association High Average for several years.  Participated in 26 Iowa State Tournaments and 30 ABC National Tournaments.

Harold Mills:  Bowled for 40 years and in two leagues for a few of those seasons.  Was a member of a City Tournament team Champion.  Was a sentimental favorite for his sportsmanship and love of the game.

Maurice Millard:  Bowled for 35 years and in two leagues for 11 of those years.  Mt. Pleasant Men’s Bowling Association Vice-President for 2 years.  Participated in four Iowa State Tournaments.  Was a sentimental favorite for his sportsmanship and love of the game. 

Dick Overton:  Became proprietor of Iris Bowling Center on February 15, 1974.  Bowled for 11 years with some years in two leagues.  Was the scratch All-Events Champion in the 1979 Men's City Tournament.  A memorable moment was while at the National Tournament in Reno, his ball did not pass inspection because it had been left out overnight.  Passed away in 1991.
Jerry Bradley:  Has been bowling for over 40 years.   Has sponsored a team in the American Bowling League for 44 consecutive years, and has sponsored many other women, mixed and youth teams as well.  He is a past Association Treasurer and League President.  Had high game in Association during the 1988-1989 season of 276.  Finished 4th place in the 1965 Men's State Tournament Singles with a 683 series.  Placed second in the Booster Team Division of the National Tournament held in Tulsa, OK in 1985. 
Elgin Pankoke:  Was very well liked by both Men and Women bowlers.  He was a sportsman in every way, from his congratulatory nature to the polite ribbing he would give his bowling friends.  Bowled for 15 years in two leagues for most of those and was a league officer at one time.  Pankoke was also known for having very large hands.  The finger and thumb holes of his ball were larger then the size of a quarter, and this was in the days before inserts.
